Motocorsa Racing rider Leandro ‘Tati’ Mercado is aiming to return to MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship action at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours after undergoing successful surgery on a scaphoid fracture to his right wrist, an injury he suffered at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on his Free Practice 1 outlap.

Mercado had come off his Ducati Panigale V4 R machine on his first lap since being declared fit again; the Argentinean returning after a separate injury picked up in a collision with Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) at MotorLand Aragon’s first event, the Aragon Round. The injury in that crash ruled him out the following week, for the Teruel Round, but he recovered for the Catalunya Round. The Free Practice 1 crash at the Montmelo circuit meant Mercado missed the entire Catalunya Round weekend.

Mercado’s surgery took place on Tuesday at the Vaio Hospital in Fidenza, Italy, and Tati spent the night in hospital following the surgery, where the appropriate medical checks were carried out. On Wednesday afternoon, he was discharged and returned to Imola where he will be treated by staff of the mobile clinic, allowing Mercado to undergo physiotherapy sessions. Motocorsa Racing is hopeful Tati will be back on track at Magny-Cours for the Pirelli French Round.
